Although most ringworm infections are commonly found in areas of the body where the skin is fairly flat and open to exposure, ringworm can affect any portion of the human skin. Being that ringworm is caused by a fungus, and fungi are very resilient and hardy little organisms, any portion of skin that comes into contact with these fungal agents is at risk. Applying a ringworm treatment the moment you suspect an infection will not only minimize the chances of the infection getting worse but also of you spreading it to others.

David Gruby is considered the founder of medical microbiology.  He was the son of a poor Jewish peasant in a village at Baczka, a fertile district of southern Hungary and grew up in the mid 1700′s.  Long before anyone knew anything about a ringworm treatment or the nature of the infection, Dr. Gruby isolated and defined what a ringworm infection is…

Ringworm derives its name from the classic red, round “worm like” lesion seen on human skin that is infected.  It is not a worm though; it is a fungus that is spread from animals to humans.  Dermatophytosis is the medical term for “fungal infection of the skin, hair or claws” (keratinized tissue).  Ringworm is not a worm, it is a fungus that can infect the skin of animals and humans.  Some species of dermatophyte fungi live in the soil, some are adapted to humans, and some are adapted to animals, with worldwide distribution.  The animal dematophytes are the ones known as “ringworm.”  Because it is transmissible to humans from animals, it is also known as a zoonotic disease.

What Causes Ringworm? What causes a ringworm infection?

Ringworm is not caused by a worm.  It is caused by a fungus.  The kinds of fungi that cause ringworm live and spread on the top layer of the skin and on the hair.  They grow best in warm, moist areas, such as locker rooms , in swimming pools and skin folds.  Continue reading →

Ringworm, a fungal infection of the skin, can be difficult to detect in the early stages.  And it is during the early stages when using a ringworm treatment is most important so that the infection stays mild and therefore is easier to treat.  So if we can recognize the symptoms, we can know when and how to cure ringworm…

Symptoms of ringworm include:

  • Itchy, red, raised, scaly patches that may blister and ooze.

  • The patches tend to have sharply-defined edges.

  • Red patches are often redder around the outside with normal skin tone in the center. This may look like a ring.

If ringworm affects your hair, you will have bald patches.

If ringworm affects your nails, they will become discolored, thick, and even crumble.  This condition is known as nail fungus and will specifically require a Toenail Fungus Treatment.

Hello Everyone! We’d like to take time to thank all of our visitors (past and present) for looking us up to find valuable information on ringworm infections and the best methods for prevention.  Ringworm is a very prevalent condition but can be treated effectively once detected.  The purpose of this website is to provide useful content about the variety of ringworm treatments and prevention techniques.

We are also extremely open to responses and communication from our readers so please feel free to share your experiences, thoughts and questions with our panel of “ringworm” experts.  Our goal is simply to help anyone suffering from a ringworm infection find the best possible treatment to eliminate the infection as swiftly as possible.  Happy reading!

Trudy9

Trudy is a sweet mid-sized dog who is a definite “LeMutte” original creation! The vet called her a golden retriever mix, but she looks more like a hound/shepherd mix overall; she came in as a starving stray, all her ribs and her hipbones are prominent (but we’ll fatten her up in no time). She seems very grateful for the soft place to sleep and the regular meals.

We are estimating Trudy’s birth date as 2/8/09, making her about 2 1/2 years old – though her teeth are very white, so she may be a little younger. Trudy has an odd little “hitch” in her gait – when she gets moving fairly quickly, her rear legs sort of swing to the right side, and when she runs, she sort of “hops” with her hind legs while running normally with her . . . → Read More: New adoptable dog: TRUDY

Duquella4

DuQuella is named for one of our adopters/facebook friends; we chose this name because it rhymes with our other juvenile black dog, Ella – too cute! (We’ll occasionally be stealing facebook friends’ names for our pets; ideas are hard to find, ha).

DuQuella looks like a LeMutte dog, we can only guess that she may have some black Labrador and some sort of shepherd in her mix; she’s much smaller than a full Lab, approximate weight right now is 35-40 pounds, and we are guessing she was born around 12/1/10, so she’s just over 6 months old right now. She has some brown fur on the backs of her legs and her feet.

Two new cats, female Cybele and male Eros, were listed.

Cats Wasabe and Alameda were adopted, as were dogs Sissy, Freckles, Kaa, Nagaina, and Bagheera. They can now be seen on our Adopted page.

Nothing happened in the week of 11/14. Oh, well.

Two new dogs were listed: Sissy and Freckles, both ~50-pound females. Sissy is an adorable ~1-year-old border collie mix, and Freckles is a cute ~2-year-old Walker Hound.

In addition, six new leMutte puppies were listed: three males and three females. The males are Baloo, ShereKhan, and Mowgli. The females are Kaa, Nagaina, and Bagheera. They were all born on September 24.

An October ringworm outbreak at the shelter has left eighteen of our twenty-one adoptable pets infected. Infected pets include:

Alameda Adriano (adopted after infection) Acosta Aguafria SilverBelle ChiangMai Siobhan Wasabe Lambert Fantasia Doolittle Melinda Six unnamed leMutte puppies

This leaves only Cupid (who is on “longtimers discount”), Surat (currently on “adoption pending”), and Zorro uninfected.

All of these pets (except, of course, Adriano, since he’s already with his new owner) entered treatment on Monday, November 1.

It is important to understand that ringworm is nothing to be afraid of. It is, in fact, even less serious of an infection than athlete’s foot or those mushrooms in your lawn. Stay tuned for a blog about ringworm and why it’s nothing to fear.

Three cats and a dog were adopted: Slinky on Tuesday 11/2, Cavil on Wednesday 11/3, Chili on Friday 11/5, and Adriano on Saturday 11/6. Wish them long, happy lives with their new owners!

In addition, Surat the Siamese mix is on “adoption pending” status as of Thursday 11/11.

A ringworm outbreak at the shelter has left all our adoptable kittens and six new leMutte puppies infected. They are all in treatment as of Monday 11/1. Stay tuned for more details.

Clockwise from upper left: Brannagh, Enya, Rhianna, Fianna

Fianna, Brannagh, Enya, and Rhianna are Border Collie/Irish Setter/Unknown “leMutte” pups, born 7/27/10, who came to us as a “Stop the Cycle” litter (we spayed the mother dog at our expense, and took the litter to find them great new homes).

We expect these fuzzy gals to be pretty energetic, and probably between 40# – 55# when full-grown, though it is impossible to guarantee adult size of “leMutte” pups! They are happy, friendly girls who were kept with their momma dog until weaned; they will now stay together until we find their forever homes, and are doing all the right “puppy play” things to help them become well-socialized family pets. They are currently in a foster home together.

How Much Does It Cost To Treat Ringworm In Dogs?

End Point in the Case Alexanian

Today Russian justice finally closes the file Alexanian. It should not be seen as a gesture of humanity. At the expiration of the limitation period, neither the judge nor the prosecutor can not prevent the closing of the record. Only the defendant himself has the right, if he wants to get a dismissal and compensation.
This is not the choice made by Alexanian. He can not afford to waste time and energy to fight against the pseudo-Russian justice. The most important thing for him now is to recover all of his civic rights, including the possibility to leave Russian territory. For over a year since he is requesting permission to travel abroad for treatment.
Relatives and supporters of today Alexanian grow a sigh of relief. But a great feeling of bitterness remains. Those who know
Vasily know that if his health would permit, he would fight to the end to prove his innocence. And then somehow, those who remained in prison and tortured for two years received at least a draw. He failed to force him to testify against his former employers of Yukos, but their strategy has worked in part. Bitterness
also because courageous testimony before the Supreme Court Alexanian Russian did not cause the reactions that we were entitled to expect. The remand is always synonymous with blackmail and torture, since there were several deaths in the same prison and in the circumstances appalling …

And last but not least – why Alexanian he spent two years in detention?

- He was charged with offenses that did not exist in the Penal Code at the time he supposedly committed. Upon his arrest, the indictment referred to in Article 174.1, which only appeared in the penal code in 2002, while the episodes mentioned dated from 1998-1999. The indictment was therefore invalid at the time. It was surreptitiously fixed some months later.

- The judges who decided his detention relied in particular on an electronic document that had supposedly been found in the computer’s legal department at Yukos, which described the various means by which employees of Yukos could circumvent the law. This document was therefore Alexanian a dangerous character, may hinder the smooth running of the investigation if left at liberty. Now we learned a few weeks ago that the document was not developed within the company, Yukos, but … by Ribyne, CEO of East Petroleum, one of the fiercest opponents of Khodorkovsky and part-civil trial.
This element of the case has been little reported by the media, but use by the public prosecutor of such gross forgery is scandalous to say the least!

So if we sum up: Alexanian was arrested on the basis of an indictment invalid, he was kept in custody two years because of a crude forgery. During these two years he has been subjected to blackmail and abuse, his health has deteriorated to put his life at risk … Therefore difficult to truly rejoice today, even if the persecution of Alexanian by Russian authorities is nearing completion.

They will also tormented to the end: to make their decision, judges are required to attend in person qu’Alexanian in court, even though the doctors forbid him from appearing in public because of his severe immune deficiency. The young lawyer became extremely thin, the lower face covered by a surgical mask. He had difficulty speaking clearly and often paused to cough … The Observer

The two are somewhat similar but have one major difference.  Both infection types are fungal and at their root are fungi, not the bacteria or viruses that cause other infections.  Ringworm is part of a larger group of fungal agents call dermatophytes.  Generally speaking, a dermatophyte is simply a type of fungi that can cause skin, hair, or nail infections.  Whereas candida is a yeast which has fungi that can cause infections on many areas of the body.
